A Legacy of Service. A Family Tradition. 50 Years of Bushelon.

Bushelon Funeral Home was born from the vision of Aubrey Bushelon, a hardworking young man who dreamed of one day owning a funeral home and serving families in his own community.

Long before that dream became a reality, Aubrey spent his weekends working at Poole’s Funeral Home, learning the profession from the late James Poole and his sons, John and Ernest. He absorbed everything he could about funeral service, often collecting equipment and supplies he believed might one day be useful in a funeral home of his own. Some of those items found their way into his mother’s garage—small reminders of a dream he refused to give up.

After 25 years with McKesson-Robbins Wholesale Drugs, Aubrey pursued that dream in earnest. Before opening the funeral home, the Bushelon family went door to door throughout the neighborhood, asking residents whether they would welcome a funeral home into their community.

The community said yes.

What began as a small white-frame house grew into Bushelon Funeral Home—a name that would become synonymous with compassionate, professional funeral service in Birmingham.

50 Years Later, the Legacy Continues

For five decades, Bushelon Funeral Home has had the privilege of caring for generations of families. Through changing times, traditions, and approaches to funeral service, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to treating every family with dignity, compassion, and excellence.

Today, Bushelon continues as a family-owned and operated funeral home, carrying forward the values upon which it was founded while embracing the changing needs of the families we serve.

From traditional funeral services and personalized celebrations of life to cremation, memorial services, and preplanning, we believe every family deserves options—and that a beautiful farewell should be within reach regardless of budget.
